Brenda Rattray
Brenda Rattray is a Voice Expressive Workshop leader,
a Performer, Composer, Poet, Singer and Choir Conductor.
She is also a prolific graphic artist.
She has brought her inspirational workshops to Australia,
East Africa, Finland, Spain, Germany, Israel, Madrid and
more recently to South Africa and Italy where since 2000,
she has continued to run workshops and perform.
She has been running workshops and refining her teaching
methods for over two decades. The venues that she has
worked in range from Montessori Nurseries to the Maze
Prison, from the Royal Opera House to the Charlton Valley
football club where she conducted and performed one of
her compositions in front of 26,000 football supporters.
In 2002, as part of the Jubilee celebrations Brenda conducted
a vast choir in front of her Majesty the Queen kick-starting
a singing marathon event broadcast by the BBC.
She composes and arranges for the BBC singers, the BBC
Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra with
whom she has just recently finished touring.
She has had numerous commissions including a piece sung
by massed voices in Trafalgar Square for The Greater London
Authority.
As a versatile performer she has worked with The Duncan
Lamont Big Band, The London Community Gospel Choir, Stan
Tracey, Priti Paintal, The Grand Union Orchestra, Alex
Maguire (Free Jazz), Wei Lei and her Chinese Orchestra
and Ian Shaw.
Her song "The smile behind the eyes" published
by Youth Music and Faber in 2005 is establishing itself
in the repertoire of many choirs across Britain. She is
currently compiling a book of her compositions, due to
be published by Faber in 2008 and she is also making preparation
for an exhibition of her artworks.
