Tim Sutton

Tim is one of the most versatile musicians in the UK. In the last year he has been conductor of a new production of Sweeney Todd for Värmlands Opera, Sweden, judge for BBC Radio 3's Choir of the Year and Young Musician of the Year, and composer for the National Theatre of Scotland's new production of The Bacchae with Alan Cumming. He is the Musical Director of Music Theatre 4 Youth, London Lads and Guardian's Angels (the choir of the Guardian newspaper), and Associate Composer of Voce Chamber Choir. Tim's choral work is published by Novello Ltd.

Choral work includes Salute the Sun!, a Cantata for Freedom, performed to great acclaim at Sing For Freedom in Clapham this June, where it was narrated by Paul Gambaccini. Composition for theatre includes The Soldiers' Fortune (Young Vic), Women Beware Women (RSC), As You Desire Me (Playhouse), As You Like It (Wyndham's), Knight of the Burning Pestle (Young Vic/Barbican), The Skin of Our Teeth (Young Vic), Cinderella (Northampton Royal Theatre), Such Sweet Thunder (Newcastle Theatre Royal), A Fool and his Money... (Nottingham Playhouse, Birmingham Repertory), The Gift (Birmingham Door, Kilburn Tricycle), and Bryony Lavery's A Wedding Story (Birmingham Door, Soho Theatre). Tim also wrote the score for Thought Latching to Thought and Pulling, Ben Wright's Place Prize-nominated dance work.

Musical direction includes The Mysteries of Harris Burdick (Arts Theatre London and Frederick Loewe Theatre New York), Marat/Sade (Royal National Theatre), Trouble in Tahiti (Battersea Arts Centre), Hymn to Love (Mercury Colchester, Drill Hall, Traverse Edinburgh and BBC Radio 3), Killing Rasputin (Bridewell Theatre), China Song (Plymouth Drum and touring), Marie (Basingstoke, Keswick and touring), The Mikado (Newcastle-under-Lyme, Orange Tree Richmond), The Mother (Keswick and touring), The Wind in the Willows (Birmingham Rep), and The Late Sleepers (Newcastle Theatre Royal).

Work as Chorus Master includes The Little Prince (BBC2), Showboat (Raymond Gubbay) and The Water Diviner's Tale (BBC Proms).
